XBox scratches discs, makes them unplayable

For Christmas my son wanted an XBox 360 S, and Call of Duty Black Ops. He received both. We had been strictly a Nintendo family before then, and he has plenty of experience with game systems. This morning he tells me that the Black Ops disc has a circular scratch on it and will not play. This seems to be a known problem if you move the XBox while the disc is playing. Only he did not move the system, it sits upright on our TV stand and will not lay flat, and with everything remote nowadays it wasn't accidently jerked down either. So barely a month later and we have a $50 game that will not play anymore. XBox support denied that there is any problem, and since it is a third-party game will not replace the disc. Never had a problem with Nintendo. Can't afford a new $50 disc every month!

LOL. OP, the way the discs get scratched is if they are used in the upright position.

Also, not calling you or your child a liar in any way, but sometimes it happens if you bump it slightly, and children tend to sneak out of getting in trouble by lying, we all have been in that situation before. Also, considering you call your child a child, I assume you understand you purchased a game that is rated M for Mature for your child.

Microsoft is not a real video game company. Their *** systems have many flaws and are known for scratching discs.

@PissedConsumer242257

360 slims, 360 originals are the only ones that do it. Microsoft is the largest technology company in the USA. The problem is not attaching a warning label stating that if you move the system with a disc inside while powered on it will scratch the disc

Xbox 360 is a Lemon

I am a hardcore gamer. I recently purchased a brand new redesigned Xbox 360 halo reach special edition system. Retail $399.99. I purchased it September 14 2010. Now five months later it has the red ring (or dot in this case) of death! Five months old! I have purchased FIVE systems in total and have sent in three in for repair. For a total of EIGHT systems owned in less than six years. At $200-$400 a system this has cost me $1700 in new systems. I purchased my first system in april of 2006, which I sent in for repair the following year for a casing defect which would jam the disc tray. They sent me a new one which I traded for in September of 2007 for a Halo 3 limited edition system. A year and a half later I had to replace that system because the dvd rom drive had burnt out. I purchased a 60gb system and a year later traded that system in for a new arcade system and a 120gb hard drive. Less than a year later I had to send that system in because it suffered from the same casing defect as my first one. By which time the "new cooler, quieter" system had been released summer of 2010. In fall of 2010 Microsoft announced the release of the new Halo Reach limited edition system, in which I prepaid for from a local retailer. I want Microsoft to fix these problems on their machine, and if they won't I am calling for an Official BOYCOTT of Microsoft's lemon game system.

Wow you have bad luck. I still have my original 360 pro 60gb version, I never turn it off and it has never had problems

I have a blu ray this isn't about sony vs microsoft if I wanted a PS3 I would have bought one it's about microsoft selling a worthless machine and getting away with it I can't stand sony ps3 if I wanted to play only four games then I would buy one

#249304

You should have bought a PS3, bluray and more.

I had nothing but problems with the original XBox with fail to read DVD problems. It was a known problem with the DVD-ROM, but when called they acted like it was a unique problem and had heard nothing about it.

Yet every website I went to had many threads of people complaining about the same problem.

I ended up going through 3 Xboxs, and replaced one of the DVD-roms myself.

Because of my problems and Microsofts failure to acknowledge the problem, I have not, nor shall I buy a 360. So when I found out about the red ring of death problems, and how Microsoft originally handled it, I was not surprised one bit.

Microsoft Outsource Customer Service

I bought a new laptop and the Office 2010 suite. The retail store gave me an activation card to enable me to activate my product on line. I tried to do this and I got a message that the website was down. So I tried the next day, same problem. Tried again the next day, website still down. So I call Microsoft. First they tell me the website is down. I told them I thought that this was unlikely that a company like Microsoft's website would be down this long. I was given another number to call. I called, they said that there was something wrong with the activation code I was given, and they would have to investigate and would get back to me the next day. Two days later, I decide to call again. They told me that I would have to call the web division and was given another number. I called them, they said no, it was a software issue, and was given another number. (we are up to four numbers now) Software told me the website was down and it was a web issue, but they would look into it and get back to me. I give them 2 days, no call no followup. I was mad now. I called back and was again told it was a web problem and was transferred there. They swore that is software problem. I asked to speak to a supervisor who gave me the same run around, would not transfer me to the software division and gave me a fictitious name when I asked for his name. I called the software division and finally got someone with a working brain who realized my password was the same as my user name and this was not permitted (although the website never told me that) She advised me to try a different password and Viola! it worked I activated my product. Basically the website gives you a false message that it is down when the problem was password related. Then one agent out of 8 used their brain instead of a script and listened to me. Offshored customer support at it's worst!

Microsoft scam game

Where to start, well I have now call 1-800-4MY-XBOX hot line about 9 times now. And I have been through 10 Xbox 360's. The first four I pretty much cut my losses and bought a new one. Then I heard that Microsoft was extending the warranty for the Red Ring of Death and another hardware error. At first I was really happy, here I had a brand new 5 month old 360 die on me, so I sent it in. Mind you the system was made in 2007 which was the year I bought it. So I called and set things up for it to be repaired. Well, after a few weeks I got my system back. With a 1 month live card for my troubles. (retail value $7.99) Imagine my surprise when I checked the date and seen it was made in 2006. Not only that, it was also a refurb. which lasted me 3 months this time. I sent that one, again, I got back yet another refurb. back. Again it was not the one I sent, and while it was for 2007 this time, it yet again lasted a few months. To make this short, I have went through this process 6 times now. The last time it was a so called "Elite" that was made in 2009 not even 3 months old before it too died on me. Again I sent it in, again I got a different one back. The last few times I made a big deal of it, and was able to get them to send me a wireless controller for my troubles. This took place 3 times. All I can say is I love my Xbox, but if you wanna buy one, be ready to get the free game called Xbox to repair center soon after you start using your system. Just make a huge deal about it when you call, and insist that they do something more for you then send you a $7.99 1 month live card. Ask for more, and don't take no for an answer.

Microsoft Hotmail Blocked my Account because I complained.

I am unemployed and Microsoft Hotmail blocked my account and won't allow me to reset the password like they say because I complained about their colaboration with the Federal Government in freedom of speech areas. This is punishment for not shutting up. They say I need to reset my password and then it won't allow me by asking me "Secret Questions" I did'nt put in the mix. Now I've tried to many times with the wrong answer. It is going on two months and I can't access my E-mails to see if I've gotten job responses. "Bill of Rights" is a joke just like Obama and that will get the NSA computer security alert going. Syntheticnuke@***.com No answer from Hotmail crew quess they are forbidden to reply.

HotMail costs nothing, but you invest MUCH time and effort linking your ~free~ email to your life and business. Hotmail simply took away my ability to conduct business...I have to start ALL OVER...I will never use Microsoft products again....they made an enemy for life. DO NOT USE HOTMAIL!!!!

#306985

:( I have had hotmail and live.com for year's....then all of a sudden they "THINK" i have a mobile phone and limit me to 4 or 5 emails a day....that just sucks big time! I have told them I do NOT have a mobile phone and they provided a link to click and say I didn't...did that, but didn't do any good.

Then, too, every five minutes have to type those silly mixed up letters/numbers in the box and even if you KNOW they are typed CORRECTLY, they tell you that they AREN'T! Seriously DO NOT OPEN A HOTMAIL account and close yours out if you already haven't.

There are better email programs. I seriously believe the Microsoft and hotmail/live.com email programs are censoring my emails--*** snoops!!

I am smart enough, that is why I am posting all over the internet about this *** company. You are a major *** or you are working for microsoft. Anyone who defends a corrupt corporation is as *** as they come.

#176493

Did you forget your password? What was the error being given?

If a free mail account. How is it that the most simple of things most people have problems with?

Please take your PC/laptop out in to the street and destroy it. You are not smart enough to own or even operate one.

Microsoft took money for time unused

So It all begins with about 4-5 month back when I first selected to cancel my month-to-month payment of Live gold time. Seems simple enough, just select the cancel option under the account management and everything should be done with. Right Well exactly the month after I made the first cancellation I get a hit on my account, then another, and yet one more. Called to investigate this, and as it turns out you 'have' to cancel thew auto-billing on the website. No other way around it. Okay, I'll pass that one off on my own fault. So for an alternate reason I have to cancel the given card on file. Which helps with this problem as well, or so I thought. I turn on my console about 2-3 weeks ago and it tells me my account is suspended from online. 'What the ***?' I ask myself and call to fix the previously stated problem, again not all too offset by this. I check up my finances when I get paid like usual to find a $16 charge filed on my account from Microsoft. I'm curious at this point, As I was not told of any kind of balance or anything when I had previously called. So I get a hold of someone who, through the period of 15-20 minutes ends up feeding me the same two lines about how I was suppose to call 'before' when I did. As well as the fact that there was nothing that could be done about any kind of refund or consolation for the time I clearly did not use. At this point I am thoroughly pissed. Though I do not yell or anything at the person on the other end. They are quite likely just doing what the bigwigs up in the MS main office are telling them to. So I just end up telling her sorry I wasted both our time, and wish them a nice day. In closing, I am sure they have this information on the site somewhere. Though poorly marked and I am ultimately unsatisfied with how their service works and how they expect us to be practically psychic.

Microsoft Windows Live Hotmail

I loaded in Microsoft's Windows Live Hotmail on my girlfriend's pc on Apr. 3rd, 2010. She still cannot receive e-mails. Microsoft's Solution Center is a waste of time. They never return your question or solve the problem. Plus, you cannot talk to a live tech support. I've used Hotmail for a few years and love it. That's the reason I loaded it in on her pc. I just can't understand how so many people are having problems by the thousands, such as constantly being asked to verify your account, blocking your e-mail, etc. Just check out their Windows Live Hotmail Solution Center and you'll see what I mean. She's going to close out her account and go with another e-mail provider.

Microsoft Scam

I bought MS Streets and Trip 2009 and got a FREE offer for Microsoft Money in the package. I input all information on the online form and they asked for a credit card number. I did this and the form said and I quote" NOTE: you will not be billed." Thats ***! I was billed within 20 minutes of doing this to my bank account. Microsoft was not cooperative and gave the usual runaround. I was transfered to another department and there was no one conveniently there to help. Typical Microsoft and their fraudulent promos. BUYER BEWARE! Do not fall for this free offer. Its a scam.

Xbox red rings of death come on!!!!

How long has the xbox 360 been on the market, shouldn't have the red rings of death been fixed by now?? I bought a unit in may 2008, with a target 3 year protection plan. It made it to Oct 2009 without a problem. Problem #1: disc drive error, called target, they sent me a prepaid shipping label and I sent to their repair facility, it was repaired and returned within 1 week. Problem #2: Three days after that, I got the infamous red rings of death, called target, sent out again, they just returned saying only microsoft will fix. Obviously, this is a major defect, they have since extended their warranty for this specific issue to three years. I had to go onto their website, create a login, register the unit, request repair, print and label, and ship to them. They sent me an email confirming my request. No where through this process do they say how long to repair, or if they replace unit, or what they do. Will I get a permanant repair, temporary repair, new unit, referbished replacement unit, what, and when? With the money that they have made on all the consumers who scrapped broken units and bought new ones, and paid for the expensive equipment and games, my feeling is they should have recalled all of the units, fixed the design issue and sent out new, non-defective units. I hope this hurts them in the next wave of new video game consoles, my next will be the playstation 3. So I lose out on a few games, but I gain a bluray and a unit that actually works.

You people dissing video games are complete &*&holes, it's about the kids getting ripped off by gate's and co. They should be recalling these junk pieces of &*it. Yeah my kids play alot and by the way they are 14 and 11 with straight A's

perfect 4.0 gpa presidental awards for acedemic excellence its not the games it is the parents :( :(

so yeah mulch... big surprise you, "earns more in a month than you do in a day" I think you meant that you earn more in a day then the poster earns in a month?

lol.

You also spelled programmers and impossible incorrectly.... just sayin...

#80928

I am the person who runs 5 KM per day, spends 2 hours a day in a gym, has a gilfriend, speaks 3 languages, earns more in a month than you do in a day, am responsible for 18 programers and sys admins and has a life a *** of a lot better than you could imagine.

As to getting a hobby? If you hadn't figured it out by now this is my hobby. I used to come here to help people and do from time to time when a person has a real problem and not like yerself a made up one with impossiable demands and little hurt ego's.

Now go back to mommy and let the big people talk.

#80793

You know what target probably did??

Check the serial number of your unit. I bet they gave you an old 'refurbished' unit back. The newer units that have the Jasper boards do not cause the RROD.

So check the serial number and see if they actually gave back YOUR unit when they 'repaired' it.

#80701

Sam, a fat gamer says what? Its called an opinion.

You get yours, and others get theirs. If you support wasting your life by sitting in front of a tv watching the backside of an animated character walk around in a made up world, then go back into your moms basement and pretend to be a grownup.

I think you can TIVO the lost Star trek episodes, and have another hot pocket.

#80699

I agree with mulch. Get out of your mothers basement, and get a life. You "gamers" spend so many hours doing nothing. You waste your productivity and youth playing fantasy games. You are sad pathetic losers and the only way you can feel good is to vanquish some *** character in an online game.

Those of us in the real world are living real lives, and getting laid with real women. We do not need 3d anime hentai to get off alone.

The Japs couldnt defeat us in WWII, but they are beating us by addicting our young to video games, and making them ***. Their kids dont play, and make better grades. Looks like they are winning now.

#80695

Mulch- Who are you to say anything like that?? Are you just bitter that you havent got laid?? Go find another hobby other then belittleing people who want to make others away of problems they maybe be having!!!

#80598

Or you could get off your fat *** and go for a walk. Maybe read a book?

Maybe go out and get a life?

Who knows you might even find a girl and get laid? Ever thought of that?

XBOX 360

My XBOX 360 after less than 20 days in my possession has given me a error code E74. After research it some thing that deals with being over heated. As far as my concern I think that XBOX should be ashamed of them selves and offer a solution to the problem. I will never recommend there product to any one. I will not stand idly by either I will look to see if there is a class action lawsuit. And if they send there sales rep to the courts good then I will show precedence against them. Microsoft had not said any thing about this and are falsely reporting to their share holders the problem that is at hand.
